Bond defeat may force district to move 8th graders into high school

Kaneland (Ill.) district must deal with middle school that is over its capacity.
After last week's failed $53.2 million referendum, the Kaneland (Ill.) School District administration is recommending moving the eighth-grade class to the high school this fall. The district sought voter approval to build a new middle school to alleviate crowding at Kaneland Middle School, which has about 1,000 students in a building with a capacity of 750 students. Nearly one out of four students is housed in mobile classrooms. Relocating the eighth-grade class into the high school would be a temporary solution; that facility is expected to reach capacity in two years.
