Boston mayor voices support for charter schools

Thomas Menino shifts views, says he wants low-performing schools converted to charters
June 10, 2009

He says he wants to turn the city's poorly performing schools into new charter schools. Menino will seek state legislation that would allow the city to bypass union approval and transform low-performing schools into "in-district" charter schools controlled by the mayorally appointed School Committee.
