From The Jackson Clarion-Ledger: A $169.5 million bond issue in the Rankin County (Miss.) School District's has failed to gain the 60 percent voter approval required to pass, and officials are looking at how the state's third largest district should move forward to combat its crowding issues. The bond funds would have enabled the district to build and upgrade most of the its 27 schools.

The money would enable the district to build a new Northwest Rankin High School for grades 10-12, a new Brandon Elementary School and a new McLaurin High School.
