Students told they can't wear rubbery bracelets at Colorado middle school

Officials say bracelets students have been wearing may carry sexual meaning

From The Boulder Daily Camera: The principal of Angevine Middle School in Lafayette, Colo., is asking parents to discourage their children from wearing colored jelly bracelets to school because of rumors that they carry sexual meanings. As more and more children have taken to wearing the rubbery bracelets, school officials felt they were becoming a substantial distraction to the learning environment. For years, teens have been playing a jelly bracelet-related game called "snap," in which boys try to break bracelets off the wrists of girls. Different colors represent different sexual acts, and -- if the bracelet breaks -- rumor has it that girls are supposed to do what the bracelet says. Some Angevine students say they're frustrated with the bracelet ban and insist they wear them to be stylish, not to play sexual games.
