New Tennessee high school will open while construction wraps up

The $52.7 million Cane Ridge High School in Davidson County, Tenn., will open Aug. 11 for ninth and 10th grades, but construction on portions of the building won't be complete until October or November. Metro Nashville school district officials say the school's career and technical education wing won't be finished until after the start of school. Landscaping also will wrap up this fall, and seats will not be installed in the auditorium until a few weeks after the first bell rings. Cane Ridge is the first totally new Metro high school to open since 1986. The 314,000-square-foot school is environmentally friendly and was built with a geothermal heating and air system, energy-efficient windows, solar sun shades and high-efficiency fluorescent lights. The architect is Gould Turner Group.
