Los Angeles district wants to limit number of students who attend out-of-district schools

Superintendent says 12,000 transfers this year cost district $51 million in state funding
March 29, 2010
FromThe Los Angeles Times: Los Angeles Schools Superintendent Ramon C. Cortines says he will greatly limit permits that now allow more than 12,200 students who live in the district to attend schools elsewhere. Cortines, facing a $640-million budget shortfall, wants the transfer students back -- along with the $51 million they bring in state funding. L.A. Unified has been lax in allowing so many permits in the past, Cortines says.
