Bethel (Wash.) district pursues plans for vocational high school
The Bethel (Wash.) School District wants to build a regional vocational high school, but a state lawmaker says the proposal needs more work before it can secure state financing. The district is seeking $1.6 million from the state to pay for pre-engineering and design of the facility. Bethel’s 2006 school construction bond includes $19.5 million for a vocational technical high school. District officials hope that state funding will enable them to expand the project into a regional facility. So far, Eatonville, Fife, Franklin Pierce, Orting, Steilacoom, Sumner and University Place have signed letters of intent to join Bethel in forming a skills center consortium.
