From The El Paso Times: In the Socorro (Texas) Independent School District, 60 percent have voted in support of the district's request to sell $297 million worth of bonds to remodel some schools and build new ones. The money will enable the district to build two elementary schools and one middle school; and complete construction of two high schools; upgrade cooling systems at 12 elementary schools.
January 2011...from The El Paso Times: Voters in the Socorro (Texas) Independent School District will be asked on May 14 to approve a $297 million bond issue. If approved by the voters, the bonds would be used to build two new elementary schools, construct a new combo elementary/fmiddle school, finish Eastlake High School and convert El Dorado Ninth Grade Academy into a full-fledged four-year high school. Bonds would also be used to improve high-school science labs at existing campuses, provide technology upgrades throughout the district and give 13 elementary schools refrigerated air cooling instead of evaporative cooling.
