Jackson (Miss.) board agrees to state plan, avoids losing accreditation

From The Jackson Clarion-Ledger: One day after rejecting the proposal, the Jackson (Miss.) School Board has voted to accept an offer from the state Department of Education that will give the district another eight months to fully comply with federal special education requirements. The group voted 4-3 to accept the state's offer. Now, the district will keep its accreditation and have at least until June 30 to fully comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The state plan calls for Interim state Superintendent of Education Lynn House and Jackson School Supt. Cedric Gray to agree on an administrator of a corrective action plan for the district. The administrator will collaborate with Gray but report to the state Department of Education.
