From The Grand Rapids News: Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., has broken ground on a $26.9 million, 87,097-square-foot facility for the Michigan College of Optometry/Center for Collaborative Health Education. The optometry college has been housed for more than three decades in a converted residence hall. The new facility will enable the college to increase enrollment by a third and patient visits by at least 10,000 annually. It currently handles about 19,450 visits. The building will feature an eye- and vision-care clinic, a laser surgery room, classrooms, laboratories, distance-learning facilities, a teaching auditorium and research laboratories. The architect is Neumann/Smith Architecture.
