From The Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland): Western Oregon University in Monmouth will begin construction this summer on a 300-bed residence hall. The $14 million "live-learn" facility will have 100 double-occupancy rooms, 100 single- occupancy rooms, one apartment for the resident director and one for a faculty member, as well as space for multipurpose classrooms, offices and study and social areas. The 80,000-square-foot building will have photovoltaic panels for heating water, rainwater for flushing toilets and measures to reduce potable water usage by 50 percent. The design also calls for reducing energy consumption by 58 percent. The architect is Mahlum Architects.
