L.A. approves budget that eliminates more than 2,000 non-teaching positions

From The Los Angeles Times: The Los Angeles Unified School District has formally approved a final budget that eliminates more than 2,000 non-teaching positions. Some of the positions have been unfilled, but the California School Employees Association expects about 1,400 layoffs. An additional 1,100 workers face wage reductions of as much as 29 percent. These cuts will take effect over the next few months. The official $5.4-billion budget includes $5 million more than was previously set aside for arts programs, which means they will be slashed by a third rather than by half.
