Fuel costs drain school budgets

Some districts in the Detroit area are pulling money from savings to pay for higher diesel fuel prices. That leaves fewer emergency dollars available and some officials are worried that as fuel prices continue to rise, they'll have to make cuts in programs, textbooks and supplies. For now, districts are scaling back bus services, limiting district-sponsored athletic trips and receiving help from corporate sponsors.
