Nashville district is increasing drug and weapons searches at schools

Officials hope more aggressive stance will discourage criminal behavior
Jan. 30, 2012

From The Nashville Tennessean: Officials in the Metro Nashville school system say they’re ramping up drugs and weapons searches districtwide after years of fewer searches. In 2007-08, Metro conducted 317 searches compared with 173 last school year. Through December of this school year, 152 searches have been carried out. Officials say they hope conducting more checks will suppress criminal behavior before it starts.
