Florida district buys site for new elementary school
March 28, 2007
Marion County system struggled to find a tract that could accommodate school construction.
The Marion County (Fla.) School Board is buying 20 acres for an elementary school site. The school board has agreed to pay $50,000 per acre for the property, which had an average appraisal price of $43,000 per acre. Finding acceptable sites in the northwest part of the county for a new school has been a challenge. Most of the few pieces of property big enough to build a new elementary school were not shaped in a way suitable for school construction.
