Louisiana wants debris at school site contained

Environmental officials say Edgard, La., site needs to be capped with clay and soil.

Debris from the demolished old Lucy School in Edgard, La., must remain buried on the school site and should be capped with a layer of clay and soil because the debris could contain asbestos, a Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality says. What actually was buried after two of the three school buildings were torn down last August is unknown, because school officials failed to get the proper inspections for asbestos prior to the demolition.
