Shooting site at Kent State University named national historic site

The registry announced today that the 17.24 acres where the Ohio National Guard shot protestors was significant in America's history and should be acknowledged for its past. The land is where soldiers from the Ohio National Guard, called out by then-Gov. James A. Rhodes, clashed with students protesting the Vietnam War. On May 4, 1970, soldiers opened fired into the crowd, killing four students and injuring nine others.
