Detroit wants laptops and computerized material to replace textbooks

District plans to use federal stimulus funds to acquire 36,000 laptops for grades 6 to 12

From The Detroit News: The Detroit school district wants to replace its textbooks by 2015 with computerized curricular materials. The district is investing in high-tech tools to equip all students in grades 6 to 12 with computers and digitalizing the curriculum, textbooks and lesson plans. The district also intends to use $14.2 million in federal stimulus and Title I dollars to acquire mini laptops for all 36,000 students and 4,000 teachers in grades 6 to 12.
