Ruling says city didn't provide an adequate environmental impact plan when it built Mott Haven Campus in the Bronx
From The New York Daily News: The New York Court of Appeals has ruled that the New York City Department of Education and the School Construction Authority violated environmental law in the construction of the Mott Haven Campus in the Bronx. The court upheld lower court rulings that the SCA violated the state Environmental Quality Review Act by allowing construction of the schools complex on a contaminated site without first providing a long-term maintenance plan to the community. The $250 million campus, which includes four schools serving 2,000 students, was built on a former railroad yard with contaminated soil and groundwater. The SCA was responsible for cleaning the site and preventing future pollution, but it never offered an environmental impact plan to the community. The campus opened in 2010.
