Texas district cancels contract with indicted architect

La Joya district takes action after architect is accused of bribing an official in another district.

The La Joya (Texas) school board has terminated its contract with architect Joe Lopez, who faces federal bribery charges relating to the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (PSJA) school district. Lopez lost his architecture license two weeks ago, shortly after his arrest and indictment on federal charges of bribing PSJA school board member Roy Rodriguez in exchange for contracts. Rodriguez and a local contractor also face federal charges. They have all pleaded not guilty and are out on $100,000 bonds.
