Detroit looks to relocate students from fire-damaged school
Detroit schools officials will meet with parents and guardians of children at Bennett Elementary School to discuss options for temporarily relocating students after a fire last week caused significant smoke and water damage. Contractors at Bennett touched off a small fire beneath the floorboards as they cut a metal plate on the floor. A gas line also was severed, exacerbating the situation. The 600 students who attend the school were on winter break. About 85 percent of the building suffered damage.
