Community college in California plans to become first "grid positive" campus

Butte College says solar panels will help campus produce more energy that it consumes
Aug. 11, 2010

News release: Butte College in Oroville, Calif., plans to become the only college in the nation that is grid positive—producing more clean energy from sustainable on-site solar power than it uses. The community college will add about 15,000 solar photovoltaic panels to the existing 10,000 solar panels on campus and become the largest solar-producing college in the world. The college will generate more than 6.381 million kilowatt hours per year – enough electricity to power more than 9,200 average-sized homes, or the equivalent of removing more than 6,000 passenger cars from the roadways.
