School officials say the facility hadn't been used for decades
Sept. 21, 2009

From The Detroit News: A 45-year-old abandoned observatory has reopened at Lincoln Park (Mich.) Middle School. The project was initiated by community members impassioned about renovating the building and adding state-of-the-art technology. The dome-shaped building on the northwestern corner of the sports fields piqued the curiosity of a local astronomy buff. School officials had no idea what was inside because the observatory had not been in use for decades.
