Hawaii education chief quits Resignation of Patricia Hamamoto surprises some board members

FromThe Honolulu Star-Bulletin: The head of the financially challenged Hawaii Department of Education has resigned. The departure of Superintendent Patricia Hamamoto stunned some Education Board members. In charge of the state's school system since 2001, Hamamoto has been responsible for compliance with the federal No Child Left Behind Act at a time when the state has faced a shortfall in revenues and made cuts in the education budget.
