Florida district thinks green as it rebuilds

Charlotte County's construction projects will focus on environmentally friendly design.

The Charlotte County (Fla.) school district is taking steps to ensure its future buildings are environmentally sound. The School Board has brought in an engineering firm to provide Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) commissioning at three schools destroyed in 2004 by Hurricane Charley. LEED also will be used in the construction of other schools destroyed in the hurricane.
