Detroit scales back school turnaround effort
From The Detroit News: A turnaround plan for Detroit Public Schools has been downsized by the district's new leader. Emergency Manager Roy Robert says educating children must come before cutting costs. The district has chosen three operators to run five new charter schools this fall. Roberts' predecessor, Robert Bobb, had wanted to find charter operators for 18 schools by fall and 27 others for the 2012-13 school year. The plan was projected to save up to $99 million in operational costs. From The Detroit News: s#ixzz1PBghoV8s
