Boarding school for special needs youth may have to close

Officials say St. Charles, Ill., campus has to eliminate a $2 million deficit.
May 7, 2007

After years of financial troubles, officials at a boarding school in St. Charles, Ill., say they will shut down the campus if they can't close a $2 million budget deficit in the next few years. The closing could displace many of the nearly 100 students -- who come largely from Chicago's west suburbs such as Aurora and Elgin and have behavior problems or learning disabilities that their parents feel they can no longer handle. Some of the children who attend the Glenwood School could be bused to the organization's main campus about 60 miles away in Glenwood, Ill., but that number would depend on space and money limitations, and whether parents want their children attending a school that would be farther away.
