Economic downturn may slow campus construction

Volatile bond market could affect borrowing

Bob Fisher, president of Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., has overseen construction of three residence halls, a classroom building and the Curb Event Center in his eight years at the helm, but a shaky economy could slow campus construction to a crawl. The volatile market has included a roller-coaster ride for rates on bonds that schools use to help finance new buildings and renovations.
