New magnets planned for Chicago

Grant funds will pay for converting 10 struggling elementary campuses.

The Chicago school system will use nearly $22 million in grants to turn 10 of the district's lowest performing elementary schools into magnet schools. Five schools will have a technology theme, and two will have international baccalaureate programs. The themes at the other three schools will be language, engineering and Montessori.
