Costs soar for school in Cape Coral, Fla.

April 3, 2007
High school construction now expected to cost $63 million instead of $42 million.

The price of fourth high school in Cape Coral, Fla., is rising by more than 50 percent, or $21 million more than was originally budgeted. Lee County School Superintendent James Browder plans to ask the board for permission to increase spending on Island Coast High School from the original $41.9 million to $63.1 million. In future years, this could mean the district will have less money to spend on needed school construction costs or on such things as teacher salaries and textbooks.
