Panel supports plan for free community college

Tennessee commission backs proposal to eliminate tuition at community colleges in the state's urban counties

The Tennessee Higher Education Commission has endorsed a proposal that would make a community college education free in the state's urban counties. Free community college for all students in Davidson, Shelby, Hamilton and Knox Counties would cost about $3 million the first year, about $5 million the second year, and about $6 million the third year.
