Teachers union sues New York City over school closings

Lawsuit argues that the city gives preferential treatment to charter schools

From The New York Times: The union representing New York Citypublic school teaches is suing the city over its plans to shut 22 schools, including 15 that were part of similar litigation last year. The United Federation of Teachers, along with the N.A.A.C.P., contends in the lawsuit thatthe city is fostering an unequal system that gives charter-school students preferential use of the buildings’ common spaces, like auditoriums, cafeterias and gyms.
