Missouri lawmaker proposes $700 million bond plan for higher-education construction
A Missouri state representative has proposed a $700 million plan to sell state bonds to pay for construction on college campuses. State Rep. Chris Kelly of Columbia says his proposal will create jobs as soon as the bonds could be sold and construction begins. The money would help pay for some projects on public university and community college campuses that would have otherwise been built with money from the sale of student loan assets. University of Missouri System President Gary Forsee says he hasn’t seen Kelly’s legislation, but says the system has $1 billion in new construction projects.
