July 11, 2012

From The Muskegon Chronicle: Mosaica Education, which operates charter schools in Michigan and other states, has been approved to run the new charter school system for Muskegon Heights schools. The Muskegon Heights Public School Academy Board of Directors, meeting for the first time, followed a recommendation by Emergency Manager Donald Weatherspoon to award a contract to Mosaica to operate the K-12 charter school system.

MAY 2012...from mlive.com: The emergency manager for Muskegon Heights (Mich.) Public Schools is proposing to turn the entire system into a charter school district. Donald Weatherspoon will submit a plan to state officials calling for the creation of a K-12 charter system. The district's debt, estimated at $12.4 million, would remain with the existing public school district, giving the charter operator a fresh start. No other K-12 charter school system operates in the state.
