After pushing for more schools near Lovettsville, Va., residents near the western Loudoun County town are a step closer to having a middle school and a high school in their area. But they are torn over how nearby they want the schools to be. The Loudoun County School Board voted last month to terminate its contract for a 104-acre property because the county planning department and neighbors didn't want schools there. Now, residents are divided over the suitability of a 156-acre site being considered by district officials as a high school and a middle school site.

EARLIER: The Loudoun County, Va., administrator has proposed to delay or scuttle some school construction plans even though several public schools have waiting lists and enrollment in the already bulging system is projected to grow by a third over five years.
