From The St. Paul Pioneer Press: The city of St. Paul, Minn., would take over the old Franklin school, and St. Paul school district would get city-owned property next to Harding High School under a proposed swap. The city owns the East Side Community Center, adjacent to Harding. The tenant in the space plans to relocate, and Harding, with more than 2,000 students, can use the extra space. About five miles to the west, the school district closed the old Franklin Elementary building last year, and the district has no plan to use the empty school. Next to the building is a recreation center the city leases to the Mount Airy Boys and Girls Club, which had complained to the city about the poor condition of the facility. The city's plan is to tear down the rec center and make the Franklin building available for the Boys and Girls Club.
