North Carolina district cuts athletic budget so it can boost security

Chapel Hill district also trims textbook purchases to free up funds for security equipment.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro City (N.C.) school board has cut the budget for athletics and textbooks in exchange for greater security measures. Those cuts and others will allow the district to pay for upgrading school security equipment and getting additional security guards at both high schools during after-school hours.
