News release: The American Council on Education says the typical American college or university president is a married white male who is 61 years old, holds a doctorate in education and has served in his current position for seven years. Women have increased their representation (26 percent in 2011, up from 23 percent in 2006), but the proportion of presidents who are racial and ethnic minorities declined slightly, from 14 percent in 2006 to 13 percent in 2011.
