Palm Beach County (Fla.) district adopts new spending, field trip rules

Grand jury had criticized district's financial oversight procedures
June 15, 2012

From The South Florida Sun-Sentinel: Palm Beach County (Fla.) schools are changing spending and field trip rules in response to a grand jury's recommendations to fix financial oversight and control problems. The new procedures come about four months after the grand jury criticized the school system over a $107,895 deficit in the Suncoast High School's band account after trips to London and Paris in 2007 and 2008. Administrators say "significant controls" already are in place to prevent a repeat elsewhere, but they'll take new steps to improve the handling of about $76 million in school funds, mostly from student activities.
