Kittery, Maine, voters approve $7 million school bond proposal

Town will renovate 2 schools, close 1 elementary

From Foster's Daily Democrat: Residents of Kittery, Maine, have approved a $7 million bond proposal that will enable the town to renovate Shapleigh Middle School and Mitchell Primary School. Voters also endorsed the town's plan to close Frisbee Elementary School. Starting next year, grade 3 students will move into the Mitchell and grades 4-5 into Shapleigh.

EARLIER from Foster's Daily Democrat: Voters in Kittery, Maine, will decide on June 9 whether to close Frisbee Elementary School, authorize a $7 million bond proposal for upgrades at Mitchell and Shapleigh schools, and approve the $14 million school budget. Superintendent Larry Littlefield says the decision to close Frisbee came after nearly two years of examining the educational and financial advantages and disadvantages of continuing to operate four schools in town.
