South Carolina colleges and universities estimate maintenance backlog at $1.1 billion

Legislature may allocate $32 million to begin addressing deferred work

From The Columbia State: South Carolina’s colleges and universities have an estimated $1.1 billion backlog in building maintenance, the result of years of state budget cuts and shifting priorities. The University of South Carolina estimates its maintenance needs at $346 million. That does not include student housing or athletics facilities. But some help — up to $32 million — could be on the way from the state legislature.
