Superintendent says layoffs would be spread among 37,000 employees

Broward County (Fla.) schools Superintendent Jim Notter says layoffs and major cuts to programs may be necessary next school year in the face of a slumping economy and looming budget cuts. Notter says the job cuts would be spread across the district's 37,000 employees.
