Construction snag at Cincinnati high school site

Discovery of buried telephone encasement will add at least $240,000 to project

Crews excavating the site of the demolishedTaft Information Technology High School in Cincinnati recently encountered an unexpected obstacle underground that may add at least $240,000 to the cost of the $35 million school project. The new Taft is supposed to be built by summer 2010. Crews preparing to move an existing sewer line from under the old Taft to the side of the property found a telephone encasement from the 1930s that is still operational. The object contains and protects some 18,000 phone lines. It can't be moved, so the sewer line project will have to work around it To read The Cincinnati Enquirer article, click here.
