Voters have responded to the Hayward (Calif.) Unified School District's call for help in getting its deteriorating campuses up to date by passing the district's first facilities bond in more than 40 years. The $205 million request received 72 percent of the vote. Fairview and Schafer Park elementary schools will be rebuilt, while modernizations will be done at East Avenue and Tyrrell elementary schools and Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.

The Hayward (Calif.) School District will ask voters in June to approve a $205 million bond proposal.
