Massachusetts college challenges penalty imposed by town for failing to obtain permit

Easton, Mass., penalized Stonehill College for beginning construction of residence hall before it had a permit

FromThe Boston Globe: Stonehill College in Easton Mass., is suing the town over a $55,754 penalty imposed for starting construction on a residence hall without the required building permit. Stonehill paid the fine, but now contends that the penalty was excessive. Town Administrator David Colton says the correct procedure was followed and the town’s code is clear: Building without a permit results in doubling of the permit fee.
