Edison likely to continue operating three Baltimore schools

City district will regain control of the three elementary schools, but is expected to leave the for-profit school management company in charge.

Even though the state of Maryland is returning control of three elementary schools to the Baltimore city school board, the Baltimore district is expected to continue having Edison Schools manage the schools. City officials say they have been persuaded to keep Edison running the three campuses because of significant improvements in the culture of the three schools, Montebello, Furman L. Templeton and Gilmor, particularly increased parent involvement. The schools' performance on state tests remains mixed, though all three have improved academically under Edison's leadership.
