Portland (Ore.) district will close 1 high school, shake up 2 others

Changes designed to bring more uniformity to district’s 7 remaining neighborhood high schools
Oct. 13, 2010

From The Portland Oregonian: The Portland (Ore.) School Board has voted to close Marshall High, shrink vocational magnet Benson High and turn Jefferson High into a college-oriented magnet school. The changes will enable the district to bring more rigor and uniformity to the district's seven surviving neighborhood high schools. Superintendent Carole Smith recommended the changes to Marshall, Benson and Jefferson last month after more than two years of community hearings and discussions about how to better use scarce dollars to run high schools in the district.
