Private funds for public schools

Many schools have formed foundations to supplement their budgets.

Once limited to colleges and private schools, private donations have become part of the public K-12 experience, complete with gala fund-raisers and old-fashioned merchandise peddling. In Michigan, many school systems have formed foundations that pay for projects from playground overhauls to scholarship endowments.
