Some new schools in Newark, N.J., won't open as planned

From The Newark Star-Ledger: Cami Anderson, the new superintendent of schools in Newark, N.J., has decided to delay the opening of several new schools that were scheduled to welcome students in September. Sakia Gunn High School for Civic Engagement will not open until the 2012 so it can benefit from an additional year of planning. Three others schools--Bard High School Early College, Newark S.T.E.A.M. Academy and Newark Bridges High School—will not open unless they have hired "first-rate" principals by June 10, Anderson says. Those schools already have enrolled students for the fall., but if the buildings don’t open, students can go back to their original schools or enroll in magnet schools. Two other schools--Newark Leadership Academy and Newark Hybrid High--will open as planned.
