Bond request defeated in Kansas district

Girard district sought funds for more athletic facilities, more classrooms.

Voters in the Girard (Kan.) district have rejected a $24 million bond package. Proposition one would have provided $22 million for new classrooms at R.V. Haderlein Elementary, Girard Middle School and Girard High School, and athletic facility upgrades. Proposition two sought $2.4 million for an indoor swimming pool.

FROM OCTOBER 2008: The Girard (Kan.) District 248 school board has placed a $24.5 million bond proposal on the Jan. 27 ballot. The resolution called for separate ballot questions for the project. The first seeks $22 million for remodeling and construction at Haderlein Elementary, Girard Middle and Girard High School, including a fitness/community center, and a stadium, football field and track. A separate question seeks about $2.4 million to add an indoor swimming pool at the high school.
